Using the Science of Scent to Create Better Dates

Mmmm, he smells GOOD!

Strategic use of Scent can Trigger Emotional Reactions.

Now wouldn’t you want to harness that little trick!

But seriously, scent is the strongest emotional trigger of all the senses.  A little research and you can discover the basic “notes” (smells) and what they trigger, or what kind of activities they would perform best with.

I’ve considered 3 kinds of dates, and included a linked-to-buy specific scent suggestion for each one – but remember, what’s in the bottle is not as important as how the scent reacts to your own body chemistry.  If you want some tips on how to test fragrances at the store read my article The Beginner Guide to Scent on Suited for Love.

  1. Coffee and Dessert Date:  Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla because of its vanilla essence
  2. Late-night Around the Town Ending Back Home Together Date: Dolce and Gabanna The One because of the sensual qualities
  3. The Adventure or Road Trip Date: Polo Blue Gold by Ralph Lauren because of the spicy, minty and citrus notes that are exciting and full of fun.

Remember, a little goes a long way – start your use of scent conservatively.  Scent should almost never be noticed in a business setting, as close proximity should be the moment it is noticed.
