Most men think about what to wear to a spring wedding or important event right on the brink of the occasion.
By then, timelines are tight — and you end up wearing what’s already in the closet for the last (too many) events.
Custom clothing typically takes about a month, which makes February and March the ideal time to plan for May and June weddings, graduations, and spring events. The process is relaxed, fabric selections are at their best, and the experience is more enjoyable.
How to Approach Spring Wedding and Event Menswear in 2026
Early spring menswear this year leans toward lighter textures, versatile jackets, and pieces that move easily between professional and social settings. A modern suit in a lighter fabric can (and should) work across multiple occasions by treating it as a three-option garment:
-
The jacket: with casual trousers or jeans, a knit top, and suede or leather sneakers
-
The trousers: with a patterned shirt, quarter-zip, or light vest finished with modern loafers
-
The full suit: for formal events with a crisp shirt and pocket square, finished with chocolate or cognac shoes and belt
In this way you can get a much higher return on investment and have more fun with your clothing choices.
Consider your upcoming social or business calendar, and what statement you would like to make with your appearance, from traditional and conservative to fashion forward and bold – and everything in between. Looking intentional — even at a “casual” event — shows your personal style confidence as well as respect for the occasion.
J.Hilburn provides a Spring LookBook that offers a visual guide to these options, further highlighted in my brief video which I DO ecourage you not to put off your purchase too long – i want you to be able to choose from the best of the best.
Two subtle but important style updates this season to note:
-
The return of the double-breasted suit — sharp, modern, and worth reconsidering (see pages 56 and 90) as a statement that demands appreciation. Choosing “DB” as an option is a powerful way to add authority to your look.
-
A shift away from ultra-skinny toward slightly fuller trousers with a higher rise, giving a vintage-Hollywood influence (pages 24 and 48)
Spring is one of the most enjoyable times to buy for a special event. We both enjoy the shift out of winter’s navy and grey and a pop of color, especially in rosy pinks or greens, and J.Hilburn is a wonderful resource for these fabrics (and more) in easy to wear, tonal qualities. I
