Understanding your shape helps you dress best. If you are a “pear” shape, read on!
A “pear” or triangle shape occurs when a woman carries weight on the bottom half of her body. Her shoulder, bust and waist are narrower than her hips. Typically her bottom and thighs are larger and rounded, and her shoulders could be sloping. Her bust may be small, and/or her waist is well defined. If you are plus size, your arms may be heavy.
Use your wonderful curves to your advantage!
Having a feminine derriere like you do is to your advantage, and your small waist allows you to dress to appear slimmer than you may actually be.
Your goal is to create interest on the top half of your body to balance the bottom half. Choose dresses, jackets, tops that have horizontal detailing, big collars, and are designed for interest and width at the shoulder. Tops can have more color and pattern interest – even ruffles. Choose deep V and U necks with interesting jewelry that draw the eye upward.
A Sweetheart neckline will harmonize with your curves and show a little sexy cleavage.
Skirts that accent your waist and fall gently in waves over your hips are attractive, as well as A line skirts that fall straight. Dress shoes should not have an ankle strap that cuts off the line of your leg.
Always wear flat front trousers – keep the lines clean, long and dark. If you can wear high heels with pants, and try to at least wear pointy toe kitten heels.
Straight cut jeans will balance your proportions. Definitely avoid low rise jeans to avoid Muffin Top and omit detailing on the back pockets. Dark colors recede and Light colors attract so wear light on top and dark on the bottom. Avoid leggings.
Carry a handbag that fits under your arm, and not at your hips.
You will want a closet full of jackets that add width and structure to your shoulders, but ensure that they don’t hit you right at the broadest part of your hip. Choose cropped shorter jackets. A double breasted suit jacket would work for you.
